NAFSE Field Trip: Experimental wind tunnel tour for wildland fire applications

Event Date:
Wednesday, September 26, 2018 - 12:00 to 16:00

Register by end of day, September 21!

Come to WPI to visit the largest fire laboratory in academia in the U.S. and learn about the wildland fire research that is conducted there! A 20 ft-long wind tunnel is currently used to conduct fundamental research on the influence of wind on fire spread through discrete an multi-layered fuel beds, from pine needle beds to shrubs. This work is done in the frame of a SERDP research proposal in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service and several universities. Other research is done at a small scale in order to better characterize vegetation as a fuel and how it burns under diverse conditions.
