Timber Harvest in West Virginia State Parks

The Forest Stewards Guild, has submitted comments on West Virginia Senate Bill 270 and House Bill 4182, which would revise State Park rules to permit commercial timber production. The Guild strongly oppose SB 270 and HB 4182 because they conflict with the key purpose and value of parks, push for timber harvest without stakeholder input, and attempt to legislate the complex process of forest management. We felt it important to add our voice to this issue because West Virginia State Parks are a world-class treasure and the current bills will not result in ecological and socially responsible public forest management. Update: The bill that would allow regulated commercial logging on West Virginia State Park lands is dead (read more here).
