Forest Guild National Meeting

Thanks to all who made this a great meeting!

In the tradition of past Forest Guild national meetings, the June meeting provided participants with an opportunity to learn and interact with Forest Guild members and partners from around the country. The meeting venue was in a beautiful forested area on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada Range at the California/Nevada border. The meeting included nationally recognized speakers, detailed discussion sessions, and field tours to demonstrate excellent forestry in practice.

Missed the meeting? Its not the same as being there, but presentations (slides and audio recordings) are available here.

Forest Biomass Guidelines

The Forest Guild’s new Forest Biomass Retention and Harvesting Guidelines for the Northeast address questions of forest sustainability in a time of increasing interest in harvesting forest biomass for energy security, climate mitigation, and economic reasons. The guidelines are based on the best available science and are the product of a six month effort by a working group of twenty one Forest Guild members. The scientific background for the guidelines is summarized in an accompanying document titled Ecology of Dead Wood in the Northeast. The working group also drew from existing biomass harvesting guidelines developed by states and internationally. These biomass harvesting guidelines are reviewed in the Guild’s newly released Revised Assessment of Biomass Harvesting and Retention Guidelines.
