Students

Students won’t want to miss this opportunity to meet many of the foresters and practitioners at the forefront of longleaf restoration in the Southeast and excellent forestry across the country. There will be ample opportunity to mingle with professionals of all ages and a facilitated interaction between professionals and students.

Is one of your goals to meet professionals engaged in your field of interest?  Are you interested in meeting mentors engaged in the career you are pursuing?

At this year’s conference, we will connect students with potential mentors. In advance of the conference, in a variation of the dating game, students will identify several characteristics of a professional with whom they would like to have a conversation. Those preferences will be used to pair students with a professional that best suits the criteria. Once these pairings are made, we encourage students to contact their professional by email to learn more about what they do. At the conference there will be a student-mentor breakfast where students will have the opportunity to meet with several professionals and learn about their careers. If you would like to participate, please indicate your interest on your registration form.

In addition to the mentor pairings, on the final day of the Guild conference there will be an informal session called “Foresters of the Next Generation.” In this session students and professionals from several different generations will muse about the future of forestry and natural resource management and how students can prepare themselves to contribute.

Student rates are available for the conference and some limited travel scholarships may also be available. Please check this webpage in the coming weeks for information on scholarships.
